History
The one that started it all! In 2001, YBI transitioned from a general-purpose incubator into a tech driven incubator that would attract, grow, and develop Software as a Service (SaaS) companies to compete on the world stage from right here in Youngstown, Ohio. While this SaaS focus defined much of our early success and national acclaim, we have since shifted our focus to be at the forefront Advanced Manufacturing (AM).
Mission
The mission of the ENGINE Technology Incubation Program is to empower technology driven startups with tailored incubation and acceleration services that guide entrepreneurs with access to industry experts, commercialization assistance, pitch deck development, introductions to marquee customers and any other needs that may arise. The goal is simple – to help, not hinder, startups.
Purpose
The ENGINE Technology Incubator has been at the forefront of reindustrialization and economic transformation long before it was cool! By helping startups grow in the heart of Youngstown, we are constantly working to transform the midwest by positioning the region as a hub for advanced manufacturing and technology innovation. For more than a decade, ENGINE has helped shift the narrative from industrial decline to high-tech resurgence.
AM Center of Excellence
YBI’s Center of Excellence for Advanced Manufacturing is Ohio’s designated hub for driving innovation and commercialization relevant to Advanced Manufacturing. The ENGINE team provides high-level support for technology-based ventures from ideation through development and commercialization.
Local Software
The ENGINE Local SaaS Cohort supports early-stage software companies with personalized strategies for ideation, got to market execution, and beyond. By combining expert mentorship, market connections, and tailored resources, the SaaS Cohort accelerates each company’s journey from concept to scalable, sustainable business.

At YBI, we take pride in creating a “welcoming home” environment for international (and domestic) tech startups. We offer a highly personalized support model tailored to the unique challenges foreign founders face including entering a new market and navigating full or partial relocation.
